American Midwest and American Studies

American Midwest series and American Studies

The American Midwest series, which was begun in 2014, included titles that illuminate the experiences of people and places in the American Midwest within inter- and intra-regional, national, and international contexts. Topics include westward movement, gender, immigration and ethnicity, political movements, social and cultural history, and industrialization. The series was published by Truman State University Press between 2014 and 2018, under the editorship of Dr. Jon Taylor, Professor of History at Central Missouri State University and author of A President, A Church, and Trails West: Competing Histories in Independence, Missouri (University of Missouri Press, 2008) and Truman’s Grandview Farm (History Press, 2011).

Prior to 2014, Truman State University Press published books in American studies on topics including folklore, railroads and the environment, President Harry Truman, and history of osteopathy. Also within American history, TSUP published the Truman Legacy Series, in which political leaders and scholars examined Harry S. Truman’s views and actions on key topics during his presidency. Many of TSUP’s books on American history and the American Midwest are suitable for both scholarly audiences and the reading public.
